Oh, better far to live and die
Under the brave black flag I fly,
Than play a sanctimonious part,
With a pirate head and a pirate heart.
~ Ancient Terran Freebooter manifesto
Since the Catastrophe, the Consortium and the Gaule Protectorate have each been doing what they can to bring stations, left out in the cold by the destructive forces unleashed during those dark days, back into the fold. There are, however, those who show zero desire to be brought back, embracing instead the wild and unpredictable nature of life on the fringes of known space. Allow us to introduce the Freebooters.

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the songs of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
– Unknown, ancient Earth
When the Catastrophe struck, each station was affected and reacted in a different manner. It is perhaps this singular fact that has created such a tumultuous state of affairs in trying to reclaim our civilization. Concurrently, it has also given rise to a plethora of fascinating communities and locales for the enterprising traveler to explore! Galactic Destinations is proud to present The Court of Fools, a colorful and unique area borne of the events that occurred after the Catastrophe on Bordeaux station.

I shut my eyes in order to see.
The eyes, it is said, are the windows into the soul. With a little tweaking, we have made this window something a little more functional from the other side as well. Enter the CORETECHS, a happy and successful marriage of form and function. Brought to you by Benevolent Dynamics, one of the corporations you will find within the Tau Station universe, the CORETECHS is a blend of in-game utility and immersive storytelling.

There is a common understanding among all walks of conscious life: rules exist. Human-kind, through careful tailoring by social norms, have a set agreement about what those rules are and that agreement is put into a system of laws. The laws put boundaries on acceptable behavior. They protect and secure and sometimes oppress and restrict. But they exist and like everywhere else in the recognizable human experience, the breaking of those laws leads to detainment and incarceration. The universe of Tau Station is no different.
We are all that is left of humanity. Our laws matter.
Read on below about what we call “law and order” in our days, but what is a special experience in Tau Station. Try to avoid going to…the brig!

Founded by wealthy Gaule philanthropists looking to fashion a station devoted to the arts, Nouveau Limoges has long existed as a haven for artists, poets, musicians, and idealists. With its reputation for independent thinking and a resistance to authority, the station has always been seen as somewhat of an eccentric anomaly to the Gaule administration. With its large population of free thinkers, devoted to creative pursuits, the government was often at odds with the non-conformity of its citizens. The imposition of tighter control was met by increasing civil disobedience and the threat of outright rebellion.

Within the Universe of Tau Station there are two great “superpowers” that have been rivals for centuries. Though the Consortium and the Gaule Protectorate have reached agreements on numerous mutually beneficial economic, military, and scientific policies, their basic ideological and cultural differences have always been major points of contention. In an earlier blog we discussed the Consortium; here we take a look at the Gaule Protectorate.

What was once violent and rough, volatile, and explosive has calmed like the stars from which our bodies were fed our first ancient form. The old ones give us the origin tales of our promise land: Daedalus, our home and we, The Promethean Sect, have claimed it as our own. We thrive on our home station. The time for destruction and disorder has come and gone. Our bounty is won: Daedalus Station is our haven. From this we vow peace. Sated, we vow calm.
Continue, that you may know more.

The Catastrophe was a time of chaos and darkness; we, as a species, were floundering and struggling to survive. A number of factions rose up out of the ashes of humanity to guide and steer the remnants of our civilization to safety. Today we’d like to introduce you to the Consortium!

One of the first things you’ll notice as you travel throughout the universe of Tau Station is the different nature of each and every station you visit. With humanity scattered after the Catastrophe, the survivors on each station rebuilt and developed their communities in response to the specific challenges they had to overcome. In a recent post we invited you to read about some of the inspirations behind Tau Station’s missions. Today we’d like to share how the space stations themselves, with their unique backstories and societies, have served as muse to our process time and time again. Come and visit three of our stations below!
