The primary driving force in the successful tenure of the space traveler is simple: survival. Whether entering a strange new station, scavenging for goods, or trying to level the playing field with an obstinate negotiation gone awry, sometimes a well-armed response might be your best hope for a tidy outcome in the Tau Station universe. A post-scarcity life can get rough from time to time. It’s best to be prepared with the proper tools to smooth it all out. Sometimes, the best tool is one of our various styles of guns.
Previously, we offered a glimpse into The Art of the Market and The Art of Space Travel. This week we’d like to present you with a sample of weapons devised by the Tau Station art team.

Peace is a natural effect of trade.
Charles de Montesquieu
Peace may not be the first word that comes to mind when walking through a market in the Tau Station universe. From the raucous harmony of a vendor hawking his wares, to the acrid, metallic taste lingering in the air after a potential customer tests out a gun at the Hephaestus Weapon Tech booth, the Market place is always one of the most chaotic and vibrant areas on a station.
Recently we showed you a glimpse of what our very talented artists were creating in as far as space travel. This week, we invite you to enjoy a small tour of some of the many interesting aspects of our market places.

We are gliding across the world in total silence, with absolute smoothness; a motion of stately grace which makes me feel godlike as I stand erect in my sideways chariot, cruising the night sky.
– Michael Collins (astronaut)
Outer Space and Beauty have always been two concepts that often find a great kinship in each other, both in the stunning visuals of the universe around us but also through the lenses of our own imaginations. While Tau Station will always strive to harness the boundless creativity of your own imagination through engaging narrative and an immersive universe, we are just as committed to presenting you with stunning visuals crafted by the deft fingers of our talented artists.
This week, we would like to present you with various images inspired by the concept of travel within the Tau Station Universe.

Clones and cloning are unique elements found in Tau Station. They are an integral part of our universe, serving as both interesting plot devices and essential parts of game play. Knowing how important they are to your experience, we’ve also had our art team craft visuals that help illustrate the cloning process in details that go beyond imagination.

With humanity fighting its way back from near extinction and rebuilding the very foundations of civilization, you’ll occasionally find yourself in situations where life and death are just a hair’s breadth apart. The supplies you’re carrying with you may well affect the outcome. Weapons and medicines are key to the survival of any adventurer who wants to make a living (emphasis on living) on some of the galaxy’s more dangerous stations. Today we’d like to introduce you to two of Tau Station’s corporations that provide those supplies, and show you some of our concept art for their products.

Next month our game designer, Curtis, will be giving a talk about Tau Station at the FOSDEM conference in Brussels. We considered sending him with flyers to hand out but decided that stickers would be a lot more fun. Because who doesn’t love stickers?!
Using some of our favorite images from Tau Station’s background art, our graphic designer Tania put together this collection of stickers to give everyone a glimpse into our universe. Some of these pictures are new and haven’t been shown anywhere before.

The importance of a good logo really can’t be understated. It’s often the first part of the game you see and it gives a visual impression of what you’ll experience. A good logo can attract you to a game and a bad one can turn you off to it completely. So it’s no surprise that we put a lot of work into designing one for Tau Station. We wanted to get it right, and it was worth the effort because we came up with a logo that we love.

Words are awesome. Given a dictionary and enough time, a good writer can produce stories of limitless scope and grandeur. Dune, Foundation, The Laundry Files, John Carter duking it out with the baddies of Barsoom – we owe all these stories and more to authors spending massive amounts of time stringing words together. Tau Station is a text-based game, so believe me when I say that we like words. But we also like the richness that good art brings to a game, and the way it can give players some insight into the world and plot before they’ve begun to play or even read a single word.
