In the cycles that followed the Catastrophe, it took every ounce of tenacity, ingenuity, and no small degree of luck for humanity to drag itself, tooth and nail, out of the debris filled avalanche of potential oblivion. Always scrappy as a species, we somehow managed to pull ourselves, gasping for collective air inexorably upwards, grasping at every chance for survival. Along the way, a number of principles from Before managed to cling onto us for the climb out of this metaphorical pit.
Capitalism, ever our most tenacious trait, was one such survivor. It has since born a number of systems that have helped us try to thrive in an otherwise untenable situation. In today’s future, the concept of Free Enterprise allows us to boldly go where we might otherwise have been wholly unable to. Engage with us below and we shall go into a little more detail.

In the time following the Catastrophe, almost all infrastructure had collapsed. Many networked systems had crashed and much that existed within the digital realm was erased as if a virtual wildfire had spread through the galaxy’s servers in one digitally-devastating wave. It resulted in a catastrophic loss of both life and data on an unfathomable scale. Isolated systems were, for the most part, the only element to survive and, due to the nature of its digital existence, the credit was one such system. Capitalism, always humanity’s most tenacious trait, had managed to survive the apocalypse.

The Catastrophe left us reeling, fighting to survive and trying to rebuild a civilization from what amounts to barely the table scraps of the former one. This does not make for an easy path up the career ladder!

A number of corporations have risen to a degree of notoriety and acclaim since the Catastrophe, growing and stepping in to fill the void in needs and services created by the Catastrophe. Some are, perhaps inevitably, less reputable than others while others purport to having only humanity’s best interests at heart. In either case or anywhere in between, the current climate that puts survival of the species at the forefront of our list of priorities makes the perfect breeding ground for a handful of powerful organizations to end up with corporate control of various aspects of what is shaping into day to day life.
Read on below and in future segments for our rundown of the major players out there!

This cycle’s dispatch orbits around the Spirit of New York City, a station within YZ Ceti and part of a group of stations colloquially referred to as the Iron Quad. Back in the Before, this station enjoyed some of the more relaxed and froody vibes of the galaxy. Mellow bars, dazzling art installations, and cafes galore adorned every corner of the the station that sought to emulate the spirit of its namesake.
Things have changed since the Catastrophe. Land on the Spirit of New York and join us as we saunter through its faux-cobble streets as we explore the reclusive and paranoid station that it is today.
